Btw, there is no ubuntu-10.10-notebook-amd64 - probably because there are not many 64-bit notebooks?

You should install ubuntu-11.04-dekstop-amd64. There was never a notebook version of Ubuntu. For a while, they had a separate "netbook remix" that you could download and install, but that has been discontinued.
