Congrats to our friends at BackType, Dropbox and Co2stats! YC has really been making an impact on the tech startup scene and it's great to see that being recognized here.

Vote Posterous for Best Mobile Startup. =)

Congrats to you, and all the other YC startups! Though some touch choices there (BackType and GitHub in the same category)

You're right. Github is certainly the favorite (and deserves to be).

I thought you were BackType Alerts' #1 Fan ;(

Oh I am (and I voted for you guys), but what Github has done in under a year is nothing short of amazing. IMHO they should be a contender for startup of the year.

Done (for all of them), but I'll be honest - I've never really thought of you as a mobile startup.

Seems like 1/3 of them are stuff that you never even heard of, 1/3 are big name companies that have no reason to be in this thing at all, and 1/3 are actual startups that deserve to be nominated.

So basically a typical techcrunch "startup" event

Why is this fugly "award" so over-hyped?

The award itself doesn't matter, but the press the winners get is very valuable (especially for bootstrapped startups).

Yes. The gorillas are made of solid gold under that black paint.

What I don't get is how Rolando, which came out TWO DAYS before nominations closed, landed on there (not to say I don't love it) - http://vote.crunchies2008.techcrunch.com/votes/#category_16

Facebook is in a lot of the nominations. Are they really still a startup?

Technically yes, but actually no.

Out of curiosity, have they turned a profit yet? Last I heard, they were still getting more funding from selling shares.

I believe that in an interview (http://ecorner.stanford.edu/authorMaterialInfo.html?mid=1567 , maybe), Zuckerberg said that they were profitable very early on, but decided to go for more growth.

According to Dave McClure, they are going to pull in > $270M in revenue for 2008:

Not sure how much they need to become profitable.

When I vote, the site says:

"Element.update("cat_1", "Thanks for voting!"); Element.hide("noms_1");"

Weird. BTW, I am using Chrome. Is the error specific to it?

I'm sorry.

"less than $100,000" = bootstrapped?
